When should I tell my employer I'm pregnant?
I’m 8 weeks pregnant and have been in my job over two years and I was wondering when I have to tell my employer I’m pregnant. I work for a magazine so there is no heavy lifting involved just a lot of sitting, writing and meeting people really. I know where I work they encourage you to take a full year out to bond but I really couldn’t take a year out of work as much as I hate to say it I currently love my job more than my child – though I am sure this will change over time.

Also in your opinion which is the best way to give birth with an epidural, natural, water, c-section, etc. I was thinking of having a natural birth but people keep saying it’s gonna hurt and I’ll regret it but to me it seems really my only option as I am scared of needles, the water birth bothers me slightly as does the C-section. To me there is something unnatural about giving birth in water or having a C-section but that’s my option.

Also what are the pros and cons cloth versus disposable nappies/diapers?

I would wait until you have a 12 week scan and know everything is ok before you tell work
good luck with the pregnancy

We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story (1993)

IMDB rating: 5.40

Plot: Captain New Eyes travels back in time in what is presumably the Late Cretaceous Period. He feeds the four prehistoric dinosaurs with the names of Rex, Elsa, Dweeb, and Woog his Brain Grain cereal, which makes them intelligent, non-violent and gentle creatures. They travel via space ship to the 21st century where they befriends with a street-smart boy and a poor-little-rich girl tough-talking but secretly soft-hearted Louie and a neglected cutie named Cecilia, from the opposite sides of the tracks, get rooked into performing in a demented circus run by the scientist’s evil brother Professor ScrewEyes, and learns something about friendship. He has other plans for those dinosaurs. In addition, his demeanor of tapping into people’s nightmares and a hypnotic stare render him a menace to be feared. ScrewEyes may be a bizarre baddie, but he works all the same.

Prove to me God exists?
Don’t say, "Because he answers prayers." or, "I know he is with me."
How many prayers have ever been answered? None. When someone prays for a loved one to be saved from certain death (such as in irreversible terminal illness) it doesn’t work. The person dies anyway. If that happens, you say it was God’s will. If the person survives, you say, "Praise the Lord."
Why do atheists have the same chance of miraculously surviving?
Because it wasn’t God who saved them.

When you say you "know" or "feel" God is with you, you’re just convincing yourself there is something more. You lull yourself into a state of delusion. There is nothing there. What kind of God follows you around but never does anything, never communicates with you and never shows himself?

You believe a book written 2000 years ago telling everyone about God? What about all the people who lived before then, they didn’t know about God so surely they all went to Hell. And they weren’t even warned. That’s not very loving of God, is it?
The Bible was written by humans, before they knew about Dinosaurs. That’s why Dinosaurs were not mentioned.
Adam was created from dirt? Eve created from Adam’s rib? No. I won’t even begin on why that’s completely ridiculous.
The Bible is written by humans, for humans. It is a metaphorical book teaching people lessons. All the stories and fictitious, symbolic texts written only to show people what’s right and wrong.
They use God as the character that tells people what to do and gives them moral tests. Jesus is another character that shows everybody the morals about everything.
It’s just a story!

Where did God come from? Where is he? How long has he been around?
Why did he make it so that the Sun will expand in a few billion years and destroy the Earth? Why would he plan to kill all of the life on Earth?

People also say, "Look at the pretty flowers, the fluffy animals and life. God must have created it."
What about the countless imperfections? Illnesses, diseases. Murderers, rapists, cancer, … we breathe through the same hole that we eat and drink through. Shortsightedness, astigmatism, blindness… deformities, mental retardation … miscarriages, stillbirths. Wars, natural disasters, deadly storms … miscarriages, stillbirths.

Prove to me he exists.
I am not seeking God. What makes you think so? I’ve gone to Catholic schools all my life yet I can see right through it.
Okay, I’ll prove he doesn’t exist.
1Read what I wrote, then ask God to prove your faith. Nothing happens, right? Hmm.
2. Read the Bible. It says things that are tied with the knowledge humans had at that time. No Dinosaurs, as I already mentioned. It mentioned the sea was held up by pillars. A woman was turned into a pillar of salt. Show me that is possible. Turn a human into salt.
Why would you believe in some parts of the Bible and not others? It’s all the same. It’s kind of like selective hearing.
@Diana: And what are these "MANY examples" you speak of?
@1Meek Disciple: (look below, I ran out of characters to include this text)
So you’re proving God exists using irrelevant similies? Of course a house does not just fall together, that’s common sense. Life ‘falls together’ through natural selection. Billions of years of natural selection. That’s why there are countless mistakes. Mistakes in genes. Millions of illnesses and diseases. Christians say God is perfect – if he were perfect, there weren’t be these millions of mistakes. So then you say, "God makes mistakes." How dare you question God’s perfection?

Also, all of your quotes come from one source that has been altered so much over the course of 2000 years. It is therefore a secondary source. It’s unreliable to use one source, as you should remember school where you can get no marks for using only one source, as that source may be biased and/or wrong.

So when is God going to show himself and say "I exist"?
Where are your important answers to my questions? You mentioned NONE. In otherwords you don’t have them.

Your attempt to convert me has failed.

LOL @ the guy who asked the asker to prove that God doesn’t exist.

I thought we’ve went through his thousands of times: asking someone to prove a negative is illogical and hypocritical (I’m sure you don’t believe in a nine-armed invisible monster hiding under my bed, yet you haven’t disproved it).

EDIT: Septobreian: you’re comparing an electronic device to biological creatures?

Scientists have already proven that life has come about due to entirely natural causes which occur in the unvierse. No evidence of divine or higher intervention what-so-ever.

EDIT #2: pygonza – lack of empirical proof doesn’t mean something doesn’t exist, true. And no-one here has claimed with absolute certainty God doesn’t exist; saying we don’t believe in God is NOT the same as saying God does not exist.

In addition, if something lacks empirical evidence, the likelihood of it been true sure as hell isn’t looking too great.

If I told you I was capable of flying or walking on water through entirely supernatural means (not mechanical or otherwise man-made means), you would be doubtful of my claim till presented with proof, right? Then why do you so openly accept religion without evidence?

Good books for a 14 year old girl?
To start, I want nothing to deal with Twilight, silly little teenage love sob stories, or overly fantasy/sci-fi books. Although I do like those genres, I’m not so fond of mythological creatures fighting and junk. Also mystery is good.

My taste:
Alice in Wonderland
The Wizard of Oz
Hidden Camera- Zoran Zivkovic
The Waking Dreams of the Dead- Thomas Randall
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

So do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you!

"My Sister’s Keeper" is an amazing book!!! ^_^

Forgiveness paradox. Does it suggest two kinds of forgiveness, one being a mission impossible?
Matthew 6:14,15 notes ‘you first’ have to forgive all to get forgiveness.
Ephesians 4:32 notes ‘God first’ forgave you, so do likewise to others.
In another place it says God forgave you while you were yet unforgiving.
In another place it says blasphemy the Ghost hath never forgiveness.
So then, is this the same God, or perhaps allegorically Law vs Grace?

In Col 3 it says charity is put on above things like forgiving one another,
for charity thinketh no evil to even forgive in 1Cor 13’s traits of charity.

When studied out, it seems forgiveness by law is a mission impossible,
especially if you don’t know secret sins of others to forgive to get forgiven,
and blasphemy Ghost (speak against law) hath never forgiveness by law.
So it reasons the only way "God hath forgiven you" is by abolition of law.

Don’t try to insert logic into a religious belief system – it can make the Christians’ heads blow up!
Filip | Feb 03, 2010

There’s no paradox in forgiveness, it’s all about choice.

Jesus Christ died for ALL sinners WHILE we were STILL sinners.

So He forgives those who turn to Him for mercy.

But, if we, having received mercy and forgiveness, fail to forgive others. We leave grace behind and end up back under the curse of the law and we stay in that state UNTIL we forgive the person we feel mad at.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is where someone completely turns their back on God after having tasted and participated in God’s divine favour and utterly refuses to repent. Such a person will be committing eternal suicide…

And God doesn’t want that for any of us…
Camelot | Feb 03, 2010

Your query is rather, quite, profound but I have to agree with findings. Where law exists, so does the death penalty for violation thereof [sin]. A thorough reading of one of Paul, the Apostle’s epistles [letter] to the Church at Corinth, parallels the main differences between the Old Covenant, which was legalistic or law centred (works based – temporary) and the New Covenant, which is Spiritual (grace centred) the permanent Covenant. (see: Second Corinthians, chapter 3, verses 3 – 18). Forgiveness by God the father, through Jesus Christ is not "conditional" but subjective to acceptance of Jesus’ sacrifice, that epitomizes the "sum of the whole" in reference to love and forgiveness. What the issue concerning forgiveness encompasses is one of firstly, accepting the very forgiveness initiated FOR us, first, by God (God set the ball rolling prior to humans even being aware of that same forgiveness). Next; once that very forgiveness, (initiated by God) is acknowledged by us, then we are to forgive all other people, "Charity" or love (agape – God’s own love), enables us to commit to the process of forgiveness via the Holy Spirit which plays the role of empowerment. When one denies or rejects the Holy Spirit and decides to follow the course of independence AFTER experiencing the Christian spiritual maturity process ["matured" Grace - you might say] and deliberately decides to reject God and the sacrifice of Jesus for his or her sins, (turn their back on God and a relationship with Him after experiencing it – willfully) and also, decide to NOT want to pursue the course of love and forgiveness, this will result in Blasphemy or rejection of the Holy Spirit. YES; forgiveness by Law [works] IS "mission impossible". God forgives us because of what Jesus has done FOR us all on the cross.

What is the collective consciousness?
(Durkheim)
What is mechanical solidarity and the organic solidarity?

How are the three related?

and can you give an example of the collective consciousness, mechanical solidarity, and the organic solidarity, please?

thanks!

i dont know about the other 2, but the collective consciousness is just as the word would suggest.

it is all the conscious of the world collected into one…..

offtopic, their is a program which is used by stock coporations that collects the collective consciousness of the internet, this highly advanced sophisticated program collects every word in the whole intire world wide internet database and comes up with conclusions according to what it was assigned for… for example, stock markets use this progam to predict how and when a apposing company would fall or stock drop down….. this program also, unexpectedly collected information wich pointed out something about 2012… if you want to learn more about the program, look at the latest discovery channel 2012 vidoes on youtube..
knowledge void | Feb 04, 2010

Collective consciousness derives from psychologist Carl Jung’s idea of the "collective unconscious." He believed in evolution and that evolutionary content was passed down from generation to generation. Consequently, each of us has, at the very basis of our existence, unconscious "memories" of everything ever experienced by our ancestors, even going back to prehuman times.

The modern view of collective consciousness is similar in that there is a belief that experiences across cultures are very similar. Therefore, even our conscious minds contain matter that is stored in some form in the minds of all others. This makes common understanding possible.

The terms "mechanical solidarity" and "organic solidarity" were introduced by Emile Durkheim in his doctoral dissertation, "The Division of Labor in Society."

Durkheim believed that the simplest societies were held together by mechanical solidarity, that is the likeness of everyone to everyone else. All people know the same material, do the same work, and abide by common customs. This commonality is possible because of the collective consciousness of individuals.

As societies become more complex, according to Durkheim, they move from mechanical solidarity to organic solidarity. Organic solidarity binds people together on the basis of their interdependence. A physician has skills and knowledge that are different from a plumber’s. A carpenter has different skills from a farmer, And so forth. It takes the collective skills of each in order to produce social cohesion.

5 yr. old doesn't listen, advice?
My 5 year old is way too active. He does not stop. It is becoming a problem in school. He doesn’t pay attention, disrupts the other children, gets to the point where he doesn’t even know what assignment they are doing. He’s gone to the principals office twice because the teacher can not get him to stop. I get daily complaints and at one point I thought the teacher was just picking on him.

Yesterday he had his t-ball practice and that’s when I saw exactly how i imagine he behaves in school. It is out of control. He has never been a mean or disrespectful boy in any way. He just flat out doesn’t listen. I don’t know if he has a hard time processing it or if he just doesn’t care. He doesn’t follow directions, can’t sit still in line to wait his turn, he kept picking up and swinging his bat after being told the rules, etc. As soon as we tell him to stop doing something he will turn right around and do it again. Like if he was never told or just blocks it out. We’ve grounded him, taken toys and privileges away, and we’ve spanked as a very last resort. We’ve tried to avoid spanking as much as we could, but i’m starting to think we’re going to have to do it more often. None of this fazes him, he’ll be sad about his punishment, but as soon as it’s over he’s right back at it. I have asked him why he acts this way or if something is bothering him or if he’s getting bullied at school and his response is " I try to stop but my brain doesn’t let me." My first thought ADHD, but I didn’t want to jump the gun either. Could this be a medical problem or he just doesn’t have self control?

Any advice on how to help him control his behaviour?

Lay down the law. As soon as he learns he can be out of control without consequence he will continue to do so more
jared | Feb 04, 2010

I would go see a doctor. I wouldn’t automatically tell him you think its ADHD, but it sounds like it. However I have this thing with diagnosing kids so young with that disease because A LOT of 5 year olds have patients, focus and energy problems.

There’s got to be something out there besides medication for him, maybe try yoga every morning, sound SO SILLY I’m sure, but you never know? I would also try and cut out sugar from his diet. I cut down my sons sugar intake and, oh my god, the difference it made in his attitude was HUGE.
Ask a pediatrician if anything suggested here would work, just because, you know, I’m not a medical professional.

Best of Luck
Jeni | Feb 04, 2010

Go to see your doctor and explain everything.

This way you will rule out any neurological disorder or like you mentioned a behavioural problem like ADHD.

If all medical disorders are ruled out you might consider seeking the advice of a child/educational psychologist to help you with his behaviour.

Have you approached the school? if his behaviour is so disruptive at school has nothing been said to you? Or any suggestions from the school as a way to improve the situation? If they have not approached you I suggest you go straight away to speak to the principal and explain your worries and how he behaves at home. In my opinion you should be speaking to everyone who has dealings with your son, eg school principal, class teacher, GP, t-ball coach. You should all be approaching his behaviour from the same stance.

And in the meantime don?t resort to smacking, however disruptive his behaviour becomes and however mad you become. I don?t believe it helps with any child, but especially one with possible behavioural issues.

Who won the most games in the 2000's in the NFL?
New England Patriots won 126 and the Colts won 124. Which is more? Why do the Colts fans pretend that 124 is more than 126? Does Post-Season not count for them? They play as if the Post-season doesn’t count, so maybe that’s it.
